ARRS Funding

The Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme is a key initiative by NHS England aimed at enhancing primary care services. It aims to expand the primary care workforce by funding additional roles within Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and alleviate pressure on general practice.

Key Features of ARRS

Funding

PCNs receive additional funding to recruit and employ staff in specific roles.

The scheme covers 100% of the salary (up to a defined maximum and on-costs (e.g. pension contributions)

Eligible Roles

Initially, the scheme included a limited number of roles, but it has since expanded significantly. Some examples of roles include:

• Newly Qualified GPs

• Advanced Nurse Prescribers

• Clinical Pharmacists

• GP Assistants

• Social Prescribers

• First Contact Physiotherapists

• Paramedics

• Physician Associates

• Mental Health Practitioners

• Health & Wellbeing Coaches

• Care Co-ordinators

• Dieticians

• Podiatrists

• Occupational Therapists

The newly expanded ARRS scheme allocates dedicated funds to support the employment of over 1,000 newly qualified GPs. The funding is ring-fenced, meaning it is exclusively reserved for GP recruitment and does not interfere with existing ARRS funding for non-GP roles.
